Children’s therapy involves using child-friendly therapy techniques including games, activities, talking and listening. These sessions are in a private, safe, professional and empathetic environment so the individual young person can feel comfortable and relaxed. Imperative is always allowing the child or young person to take the session time at their own pace.

I provide therapy and counselling for children, teenagers and young people relating to behavioural and emotional problems as well as giving support through any difficulties they need to share. Therapies aim to help them discuss how they feel and to explore what the underlying cause and trigger of their problem is while using appropriate counsel strategies such as CBT. In addition, the natural alternative treatments of NLP, visualisation and hypnosis are effective tools to feel more confident and in control.

The outcome is to help a child and young individual feel better and become a happier person as they manage their emotions and behaviours in a more productive way as they learn about coping skills and management techniques.

Hypnotherapy for Children

‘Hypnotherapy for children draws upon their imagination to nurture characteristics such as self-esteem and confidence and these can be developed by providing them with the story line of their own adventure.’

Hypnotherapy engages with our senses through imagination. This is often why this process is beneficial for children as they have such a strong connection to their imagination and a world of fantasy such as in the magic of Santa Claus, fairies, mystical creatures and superhero role models. Children are far more accepting of the unknown and more entertained by an alternative reality to their own by addressing a problem to a fantasy. Hypnosis allows them a choice in not having to face up to something in the real world that concerns them and instead allows them to take the same concern, worry or fear to some fantasy land far away; a place where they can draw upon superpowers and weapons and go into battle knowing that they are safe from harm.

As a natural treatment, hypnotherapy for children can be highly successful in achieving desired results because they can engage in a fun way while drawing upon their imagination to the story line of their own adventure. This supports them to explore their issues and see them from a new perspective. There are many areas that hypnotherapy can help children, teens and young people with such as nurturing characteristics, namely confidence and self-esteem, as well as providing them with resilience and coping strategies to help with anxiety and how to manage exam nerves.

Children’s Therapy can help with:

Anxiety

It is normal when children are a little worried at home or school, but not normal when that worry leads to irrational worry, fear and panic.

Anger management

When children are unhappy they can begin to ‘act out’ in a problematic way or through dis-functional behaviour such as anger or aggression.

Bereavement grief

Some children often need extra and special support to get them through this difficult time. I am here to help through this period of loss.

Self esteem

You may be first alerted to signs of low self-esteem when your child mentions falling out with friends, becoming withdrawn or stops socialising.

Bullying

The impact of bullying can be catastrophic. Children feel powerless, unpopular and alone, which can lead to trauma on a personal level and anxiety.

Stress

Whether it is education related or personal, if your child is feeling stressed & cannot cope with the demands placed on them; consider therapy and listening.

Depression

In children, this often shows itself as a depressed mood, loss of pleasure in things, fatigue and sleep difficulties amongst other things.
